If your child has ADHD, ADHD, emotional disabilities (such as anxiety or depression), intellectual disabilities, dyslexia, specific learning disabilities, or autism spectrum disorder (including Asperger Syndrome), you don’t have to go it alone.

Your school's special education staff is here to support you, and one of the most important resources is the school psychologist.

How Can a School Psychologist Help?

School psychologists work closely with families and educators to:

  • Conducts evaluations to determine if your child is eligible for special education services.

  • Prepares IEP (Individualized Education Program) or 504 Plans according to your child's needs.

  • Provides counseling to help people cope with emotional challenges such as trauma, anxiety, and depression.

  • Provides behavioral strategies to improve attention, organization and self-regulation skills.

  • It helps them develop social skills and establish positive peer relationships.

How Can You Get Support?

  • Contact Your School: Share your concerns with your child's teacher, guidance counselor, or principal.

  • Request an Evaluation: If your child is struggling in school, you can request a formal evaluation under IDEA or Section 504.

  • Seek Out a School Psychologist: A school psychologist will assess your child's needs and recommend personalized interventions.

Remember, You Are Not Alone

Your child may have difficulty concentrating, learning, or having emotional difficulties. However, schools work to ensure that every student succeeds. A school psychologist is here to provide the support your child needs to thrive academically and emotionally.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to your school's special education team. Your child's success and happiness are worth every effort, and together we can build a brighter future for them.
